Previously, I outlined our M&A strategy which is to thoughtfully balance the efforts of our top-notch R&D team with the right mix of inorganic technologies and talent. The aim is to deliver new and enhanced solutions to our customers to help them achieve business success, while continuing to build and advance VMware’s leadership as a trusted infrastructure provider.
Since my last post, VMware has extended its hybrid cloud strategy unveiling the VMware Cross-Cloud Architecture™ and Cross-Cloud Services™ at VMworld® 2016. The aim is to enable a common operating environment for both public and private clouds, and to provide new SaaS-based offerings to equip customers to manage, govern, and secure applications running across clouds. Consistent with our strategy of focusing on infrastructure software innovation, we recently announced OVH’s intent to acquire the VMware vCloud® Air™ cloud service business from VMware.
In parallel with the development of our organic Cross-Cloud Services, we continue to add inorganic technology and talent to boost the innovation engine. Which brings us to the news of the day.
VMware to Acquire Wavefront
Today, I’m thrilled to announce our intent to acquire Wavefront, a streaming metrics analytics platform. As companies try to get intelligent in managing their clouds and next-generation applications, Wavefront is changing how they instrument their monitoring capabilities for improved operational stability, appealing to ops and dev teams. You can learn more about our intent to acquire Wavefront in the press release.
Digital enterprises face real challenges when it comes to monitoring microservice and container-based applications. That challenge is compounded by the dynamic and fleeting nature of containers and their rapid speed of change. To address those challenges, digital enterprises require sophisticated real-time analytics to gain visibility into the health of high-scale distributed systems before any adverse issues impact the business.
Wavefront delivers a new level of application optimization and monitoring by being able to process millions of data points per second to deliver operational insights in real-time. A cloud-hosted service, Wavefront’s metrics monitoring technology will complement the monitoring, capacity planning, and performance management capabilities of VMware vRealize® Operations™ for virtual environments. After the close of the acquisition of Wavefront, VMware will continue to advance the Wavefront service as well as leverage their technology to accelerate the development of our full Cross-Cloud Services suite to help our customers better manage and monitor applications across clouds.
I am super excited to see this next milestone on our M&A roadmap, as we continue building intelligent platforms to support dev and ops readiness in our customers.
Until next time.
