Among the highlights:
- Employee digital empowerment drives productivity. But making apps easily accessible—from any device—powers the real difference in performance.
- Empowered employees translate to business success at the enterprise level. Companies that provide the apps employees want and need—and make them readily accessible anywhere, anytime, and on any device—significantly outperform those that don’t.
- Digital transformation must include digitally empowering employees. Through investment in an underlying digital platform and new mindset, management can move from a culture of command and control to one of employee initiative with management trust for greater competitive advantage.
- Enterprises should beware of complacency. There is misalignment between employees and CIOs in perception of the availability, utility, and freedom to use technologies in the workplace.
Interestingly, the research focused on the working environment and culture of the employee—characterized as the workspace. Three segments were identified within the sample: companies that do not (in the opinions of their end users) provide employees with the technology they need to do their jobs effectively—the Traditional Workspace; companies that provide the applications employees want and need but don’t yet make them easily accessible—the Transitioning Workspace; and companies that provide the applications employees want and need, and make them readily accessible anywhere, anytime, and on any device—the Digital Workspace.
