Margaret Mead famously once remarked, “Never doubt that a group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” Last month, the VMware Foundation partnered with to catalyze the power of the company’s own thoughtful and committed employees by Giving Back Together.

Kiva is a global microfinance nonprofit that leverages the power of technology to connect people to capital. Microfinance makes possible the collective power of transformation through a network of ideas and human potential to improve communities.

The Power of Community

Over the holidays, VMware invited its employee community to build a giving network, and the outcome is simply inspiring. In the space of four weeks, 13,000 people in the VMware community invested in more than 12,500 individual social entrepreneurs in 43 different countries around the world to improve the entrepreneurs’ lives and communities.

Creating Opportunity + Technology = Multiplier Effect

VMware believes that big things have small beginnings. Each VMware microloan helped bring another entrepreneur closer to fulfilling his or her goals. This multiplier effect creates opportunities by connecting people in networks of giving around the world—and technology helps it happen.

It’s great to be part of such an EPIC team that’s trying to help the whole planet.
