By Bask Iyer, Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer, VMware
I have the privilege of leading one of the best IT organizations on the planet. I look back at the last year, and I am amazed at how well the team goes beyond hands-on problem solving, to truly driving innovation. This is not your father’s IT team. They are focused on operations AND innovation. They consistently challenge company norms – be it in terms of product direction or internal process direction. They have a point of view on the business. They enhance our culture of innovation and diversity. From holding hack-a-thons to hosting “innovation days” to implementing a reverse-mentoring strategy with younger employees, the VMware IT team leads the way in an era when transformation is expected at every turn. And they are now generating revenue. Albeit small… but just wait…
And now the industry has noticed too.
VMware’s IT organization was again selected to the Computerworld 100 Best Places to Work in IT 2016. Congratulations to all of the organizations that made this prestigious list! This is the third year VMware has been recognized by Computerworld for this distinction. This is a impressive accomplishment, and I believe that it validates VMware’s commitment to our work and community.
The Computerworld 100 Best Places to Work in IT list is compiled based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, career development, training and retention. In addition, Computerworld conducts extensive surveys of IT professionals, and their responses factor heavily in determining the rankings. Each year, 100 organizations are selected by the Computerworld editorial team to receive this award.
I’d especially like to commend the VMware team on this accomplishment, because this award belongs to them! Their dedication and passion, partnered with the respect they have for their work, their team, and the company, truly set the standard for other IT organizations and have systematically created this award-winning workplace. I’m extremely proud to help lead this amazing team, and – in partnership with my VMware colleagues – to continue to find ways to make VMware a great place to work. In closing, this is very exciting news, and we are very pleased by this ranking. I’m proud to be part of a company where people can do their best work and excel in their careers. VMware really is a great place to work, and it’s great to again receive this recognition.
