What VMware Cloud Foundation on IBM Cloud Means For Companies Globally
By Geoff Waters, Vice President, WW Sales, Cloud, VMware
With the first day of VMworld underway, the conference is talking about IBM and VMware expanding their strategic partnership, with IBM becoming the first vCloud Air Network partner to offer VMware Cloud Foundation™ on IBM Cloud. This collaboration is an extension of a 14-year plus relationship with IBM that demonstrates a shared vision that will help enterprise customers more quickly and easily embrace the hybrid cloud
With VMware Cloud Foundation, which we are announcing today, customers current and new can benefit from an offering that combines VMware’s industry-leading compute, storage and network virtualization solutions with technology from IBM that lets them automatically provision complete SDDC environments in a matter of hours – rather than weeks or even months.
We were thrilled to have Robert LeBlanc, vice president of IBM Cloud, join our CEO Pat Gelsinger on stage during today’s keynote to talk about the power of VMware Cloud Foundation on IBM Cloud. When the service rolls out in the next few weeks, customers will have all the ease of deployment and management of VMware Cloud Foundation plus IBM Cloud’s innovative architecture, multi-level security, and rock-solid, global availability.
The announcement builds on the events of February, when VMware made a special guest appearance at InterConnect, IBM’s premier conference. There, IBM and VMware first announced our strategic partnership to accelerate enterprise hybrid cloud adoption, by allowing customers to extend their existing workloads from on-premise SDDCs to the cloud without changing processes or toolsets. Since that announcement, we’ve been feverously collaborating to provide solutions that meet business’ evolving needs, and we’ve seen sustained month-to-month growth with hundreds of new customers subscribing to IBM Cloud for VMware solutions.
In June, we expanded the partnership by announcing the availability of the Horizon Air portfolio for global enterprises on IBM Cloud, which empowers customers and partners to transform the way they deliver Windows applications and virtual desktops in the cloud, allowing employees to embrace business mobility anytime, anywhere and from any place.
Which leads us to this week at VMworld. We understand the importance of delivering solutions to companies around the world, and to date, we have partnered with over 4,200 service providers in 119 countries. As customer challenges change over time, these vCloud Air Network partners are helping deliver the solutions to their business needs.
It has been an exciting six months thus far since our February announcement, and the momentum won’t stop at VMworld. In fact, we’re just getting started. Look for us to continue building relationships with additional cloud partners and how these partnerships will help with the overall enterprise business process. We can’t wait to share more about how our customers are benefitting from this latest cloud offering. We know that delivering the right solutions can only be made possible with our vCloud Air Network partners.
