Democracy Under Attack: Keeping Elections & Critical Infrastructure Safe
China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran are launching sophisticated, espionage-focused cyberattacks against the west in an effort to undermine democracy. These attacks often leverage lateral movement, counter incident response, and island hopping to avoid detection and may be targeting the 2018 U.S. midterm elections.
In a survey of 5,000 eligible voters, 1 in 4 said they will consider not voting in upcoming elections over cybersecurity fears. Cyberattacks against elections seed doubt in democracy. The idea that even a single voter is willing to forfeit their vote in fear of a cyberattack is startling and demonstrates severe mistrust in the system.
As we head to the 2018 midterm elections, the United States must prioritize restoring voters’ confidence. Every vote matters. If cyberattacks threaten (or even suggest) that the individual voter is powerless, the fundamental principle of our democracy is undermined.
In this webinar featuring VMware Carbon Black’s Chief Cybersecurity Officer, Tom Kellermann, we’ll discuss:
- The latest threat landscape seen by leading cybersecurity experts around the world
- How nation states look to target elections, critical infrastructure, and global businesses…and why
- Key ways the U.S. can keep its elections safe in 2018 and 2020
