VMware uses two different product version schemes:

1) has three numbers in the format x.y.z,;

2) has two numbers in the format and may include an Update number x.y Un.

The number in the "x" position identifies a major release. The number in the "y" position identifies a minor release. The "z" position indicates a minor revision for maintenance releases. The "n" position indicates the update number.
