Feature Overview

VMware Care Systems Analytics for Epic provides the following:
  • VMware® Care Systems Analytics for Epic® integrates electronic medical record (EMR) system performance information with VMware® vRealize™ Operations Manager™ and vCenter™ Operations Manager™ to provide healthcare IT organizations with a single view across your Epic application and supporting infrastructure.
  • Through a unified console, you can maintain a holistic view of your computing environment and monitor the overall performance of the Epic system – from the infrastructure to the point of care. This feature helps to improve SLAs, infrastructure and application availability, and IT resource utilization.
  • VMware Care Systems Analytics for Epic provides visibility into more than 270 metrics from the Epic environments, instances, and hosts captured through Epic System Pulse.
  • The dashboards included with VMware Care Systems Analytics for Epic help you to visualize and analyze performance indicators from the Caché environment, instances, hosts, Epic services on Windows hosts (Print, Interconnect, Clarity, and Relay), and related infrastructure (physical and virtual). This transparency increases collaboration across infrastructure, operations, and applications teams.
  • Pre-Load Historic Data
VMware Care Systems Analytics for Epic can bulk import Historic Epic data from Epic System Pulse to vRealize Operations Manager and vCenter Operations Manager in a matter of hours rather than days. You do not need to wait for days while sufficient fresh data is collected by the Care System Analytics Epic adapter to perform useful analysis. You can start using, monitoring, and applying the information provided by Care Systems Analytics for Epic much more quickly. This results in a faster time to value.

Known Issues

The following issue might occur in VMware Care Systems Analytics for Epic 1.0.4.

Accessing the Debugging dashboard in vRealize Operations Manager.
There is a change in behavior from vCenter Operations Manager to vRealize Operations Manager. In vRealize Operations Manager, double-click a resource in a Care Systems Analytics for Epic dashboard. This opens Resource details, Summary tab. From this click the Analysis tab, then Anomalies tab to view additional debugging information about what is affecting the health of this resource.

Duplicate dashboards.
When moving the Care Systems Analytics for Epic management pack from vCenter Operations Manager 5.8.x to vRealize Operations Manager 6.0.x the existing Care Systems Analytics for Epic management pack dashboards are duplicated.
Workaround:

  1. Install the Care Systems Analytics for Epic Management Pack in the vRealize Operations Manager 6.0.x environment.
  2. From vRealize Operations Manager, navigate to Home > Administration, and select the Import Data tab.
  3. Import your data from your vCenter Operations Manager 5.8.x environment. Provide the IP address of your vCenter Operations Manager instance.
  4. When migration is finished, return to Home.
Notice two sets of dashboards. For example Printing Dashboard and Printing Dashboard 1.
  5. Delete all the duplicated dashboards. These are the dashboards with the trailing 1.
Select each dashboard that has the trailing 1 and from the drop down at the menu bar select Actions > Delete Dashboard.
Note: The dashboards to be deleted:
    • Epic Drilldown 1
    • Epic Overall Health 1
    • Epic Troubleshoot 1
    • Epic Printing Health 1
