What's in the Release Notes

The release notes cover the following topics:

New Features

  • Datacenter Extension
    Enables you to extend your private datacenter to a public vCloud. You can move virtual machines and vApps from your private datacenter to a public vCloud, retain their original network settings, and continue to use them as if they were still in your private datacenter. You use the Datacenter Extension feature through the Stretch Deploy command in vCloud Connector.
  • Content Sync
    Enables you to synchronize templates across clouds. You can publish a folder or catalog of templates to a Content Library, have users subscribe to it, and keep the templates synchronized for all subscribed users.
  • Cross-cloud Search
    Enables you to search for a virtual machine, vApp, or template across all the clouds that you have added to your vCloud Connector installation.
  • Multi-tenant Node
    Enables public vCloud Service Providers or system administrators of private vCloud Director clouds to install one vCloud Connector Node for the cloud. Multiple organizations on the cloud can use that Node.
  • Copy and deploy in one operation
    Provides the ability to copy and deploy in one step, as well as the option of using the commands separately.
  • New User Interface
    Includes new Copy and Deploy wizards, new interface for Tasks, Details panel, and new cross-cloud search, among others.

vcloud.vmware.com

From April 2, 2013, the vCloud Connector UI is no longer available from the vcloud.vmware.com web site. You can continue to use vCloud Connector from the vSphere Client.

If you have a vCloud Connector Server that is registered to vcloud.vmware.com, register it with a vSphere Client instead.

To register the Server with a vSphere Client,

  1. Go to the Server Admin Web console at https://vCCServerIPaddress:5480.
    Note: Do not use the Firefox browser as some tabs in the Admin Web console appear blank on Firefox.
  2. Log on as admin.
    The default password is vmware.
  3. Click the Server tab, then the vSphere Client tab.
  4. Specify your vCenter information, then click Register.

In vSphere Client, the vCloud Connector UI appears as a plug-in in the Home page under Solutions and Applications.

Known Issues

Upgrade

After upgrade, SSL Disabled setting on vCloud Connector Server changes to SSL Enabled
When you upgrade a vCloud Connector 1.5 Server that has SSL disabled to version 2.0, SSL is enabled on the upgraded Server instead of being disabled.
Workaround
If you want to disable SSL in the upgraded Server, log on to the upgraded vCC Server Admin Web console, select the Server - SSL tab, and click Disable SSL.

Installation and Configuration

Server tab in the Server Admin Web console and Node tab in the Node Admin Web console display a blank page
If you are using Firefox 15 or a higher version, when you select the Server tab in the vCloud Connector Server Admin Web console, a blank page appears. A blank page also appears when you select the Node tab in the vCloud Connector Node Admin Web console.
Workaround
Use a different browser to log on to the vCloud Connector Server and Node Admin Web consoles.

User Interface

Names that contain special characters displayed incorrectly in vCloud Connector
Names of any objects on vSphere (for example, a datacenter, resource pool, folder, vApp, or virtual machine) or any objects on vCloud Director (for example, an organization, catalog, vApp template, or vApp) that contain special characters, such as /, \, or %, are displayed incorrectly in vCloud Connector.
Workaround
None.

Stretch Deploy

NAT entry in stretched vApp network in the public vCloud is not deleted
When you move a VM that has an IP allocation type of Manual Static from a private datacenter to a public vCloud with the Stretch Deploy command, vCloud Connector sets the IP mode of the moved VM in the public vCloud to Manual Static, too. As a result, vCloud Director automatically creates a NAT entry for this VM in the routed vApp network. This NAT entry should be deleted, otherwise the moved VM might be unreachable from the source network.
Workaround
After the Stretch Deploy command finishes successfully, delete the NAT entry for the VM manually.

  1. Log on to the public vCloud.
  2. Double-click the stretched vApp, then right-click the vApp network and select Configure Services.
  3. Select the NAT tab and delete the NAT entry for the VM.

VM's IP mode should be set to Manual Static in the public vCloud if the VM's IP mode was Manual Static in the source cloud
When you move a VM that has an IP allocation mode of Manual Static from a vSphere datacenter to a public vCloud with the Stretch Deploy command, its IP mode in the public vCloud is set to DHCP instead of Manual Static.
Workaround
After the Stretch Deploy command finishes successfully, change the IP allocation mode of the moved VM in the public vCloud to Manual Static.

  1. Log on to the public vCloud.
  2. Double-click the stretched vApp that contains the moved VM.
  3. Right-click the VM and power it off.
  4. Right-click the VM and select Properties, then select the Hardware tab.
  5. Change the IP mode from DHCP to Manual Static, then click OK.
  6. Power on the VM.

Content Sync

Templates in subscription folders have timestamps appended
In some cases, when you have pre-existing templates in a subscription folder and the published folder to which you subscribe has templates of the same name, they appear with a timestamp appended in the subscription folder. This occurs when the publisher and subscriber are different users.
Workaround
None.

Delay before tasks are updated for subscription tasks
After you use the Subscribe command to subscribe to a folder or catalog in the Content Library, you need to refresh to see the status.
Workaround
Refresh to see the status.

When you delete a cloud, published folders or subscriptions might remain
When you delete a cloud that has published folders or subscription folders from the vCloud Connector UI, the Content Library might continue to display the published folders and subscriptions might remain active for the subscription folders in the cloud.
Workaround
Unpublish or unsubscribe folders before you delete a cloud.

Content Sync does not pick up a vApp template with modified metadata
If you modify the metadata of a vApp template using the vCloud Director UI, vCloud Connector's Content Sync will not pick it up as a modified vApp template and synchronize it to subscription catalogs.
Workaround
Copy the existing template to a new template in the published catalog and Content Sync will pick it up.

Other

Cannot access virtual machine console from vCloud Connector when proxy is set manually in a browser
If you set a proxy manually in the browser that you are using, you may not be able to connect to a virtual machine's remote console from vCloud Connector. When you click on a console icon, a blank screen appears. This problem occurs only for virtual machines that are on vCloud Director clouds.
Workaround
If this problem occurs with a manual proxy setting, consult your network administrator.
