vCloud Hybrid Service Release Notes

vCloud Hybrid Service | 24 MARCH 2014

What's in the Release Notes

The release notes cover the following topics:

vCloud Hybrid Service Supported Browsers

vCloud Hybrid Service Known Issues

In Internet Explorer 10 the VMware Remote Console does not open properly
Due to the default settings for Intranet security, the user cannot view the console.
In Internet Explorer 10 Tools, select the Internet options menu. Click the Security tab. Select Local intranet and click the Sites button. Deselect the "Automatically detect intranet network" check box and click OK. Restart the browser.

JavaScript error when when adding a network
vCloud Director displays a JavaScript error when a user adds a routed network to vCloud Hybrid Service by using vCloud Director to select an Org VDC > Gateways tab > Org VDC Networks tab.
Create a routed network in either of the following ways:
From vCloud Director, select an Org VDC > Networks tab.
From vCloud Hybrid Service, select the Gateways tab > select a gateway > Networks tab.

Changed labeling for storage in vCloud Hybrid Service
In anticipation of introducing additional tiers of storage for vCloud Hybrid Service customers, VMware has named the current tier of storage available with a Virtual Private Cloud or Dedicated Cloud service as "SSDAccelerated." There is no impact to the storage type in use today by existing vCloud Hybrid Service customers other than the name change. Going forward, if customers have multiple types of storage associated with their accounts, they will be able to view their available storage resources underneath the "Storage" header.

If a Dedicated Cloud Service customer gives the same name to two virtual data centers the storage shown is confusing
It is not a typical customer scenario to name two virtual data centers identically, but if done, deploying a virtual machine in either of the virtual data centers lists storage from both.
Customers should edit virtual data center names so no two virtual data centers have the same name.

Virtual Data Centers

Virtual data center name change in vCloud Hybrid Service does not update underlying OrgVdc name in vCloud Director
When a virtual data center is originally created in vCloud Hybrid Service, the underlying OrgVdc name in vCloud Director takes the same name (virtual data center name equals OrgVdc name). If users change a virtual data center's name in vCloud Hybrid Service, this does not update the OrgVdc name. The Virtual Datacenters view in vCloud Director displays the original OrgVdc name in the page URL and header, but displays the current vCloud Hybrid Service virtual data center name in the list area. This may confuse users who are working with this virtual data center in both vCloud Hybrid Service and vCloud Director.

Virtual data center Networks tab does not display the correct number of connected virtual machines
For Virtual Private Cloud Service customers, the virtual machine count on network cards might be underreported in some cases or inconsistent. For Dedicated Cloud Service customers, if the cloud has more than 128 virtual machines, the count on network cards may be underreported in some cases or inconsistent.

Virtual data center thin and fast provisioning is not available in vCloud Hybrid Service
vCloud Hybrid Service has disabled the features of thin or fast provisioning of a virtual data center due to possible impacts to service customers.

Virtual Machines

Network detils are shown incorrectly in vCloud Hybrid Service for virtual machines transferred via data center extension
As part of data center extension (DCE), a routed vApp is created in the destination vCloud Director that is managed by vCloud Hybrid Service. The moved virtual machine's network is connected to this vApp network. Currently, vCloud Hybrid Service does not show vApp networks and therefore does not correctly show the routed vApp network. But DCE is supported for a routed vApp network only.
Manage this network in vCloud Director.

Virtual machine console password is too visible and should be hidden
vCloud Hybrid Service displays a console password, but it is for first log in only, and the user should change it after single use.

Virtual machine console reset of the guest OS password not integrated with guest OS password displayed in the UI
Upon adding a new virtual machine, a long-string guest OS password is displayed in the vCloud Hybrid Service UI in the virtual machine details view in order to access the console. Every time the virtual machine is powered on and off, a new guest OS password is displayed in the vCloud Hybrid Service UI, but this UI password is not in sync with the virtual machine password, whether or not the user has reset it to a meaningful password. If users forget either the original long-string guest OS password or their own meaningful password, the only recourse is to go into vCloud Director and power on the virtual machine with forced guest customization.
Upon adding a new virtual machine, use the guest OS password displayed in the vCloud Hybrid Service UI to access the console. Through the console, reset the virtual machine password to your choice and make a note of it. Ignore any subsequent regeneration of a guest OS password in the vCloud Hybrid Service UI for this virtual machine.

Virtual machine vCPU can be allocated as more than available in the View and Edit details page, distorting the displayed availability
The vCloud Hybrid Service UI allows input of a vCPU allocation in excess of what is shown as available. After that, the amount that can be allocated is shown in error, because the over allocation gets mistakenly added into the original availability.
Do not allocate more than what is shown, even if the system seems to accept it.
