Performance of Enterprise Java Applications on VMware vSphere 4.1 and SpringSource tc Server
Description:
This paper presents a performance study in which an enterprise-level Java application is virtualized with VMware vSphere 4.1. Tests are run to compare the performance of the vSphere system with a similar non-virtualized (native) system and to determine the best-performing configurations when scaling up (adding virtual CPUs) and scaling out (adding virtual machines) on the vSphere system. The results of the tests discussed in this paper show that enterprise-level Java applications can be virtualized on vSphere 4.1 while maintaining a user experience very similar to native deployments on equivalent hardware configurations. In addition, the results show that excellent performance can be achieved both when scaling up and scaling out.
