Global 2000 Automotive Manufacturer and Horizon 6: Reference Implementation Case Study (In-Depth, with Appendix)
Description:
This VMware Horizon reference implementation case study focuses on a View, ThinApp, and Workspace Portal implementation at a global car manufacturer based in the United Kingdom. This company needed to deliver on its promise of œanytime, anywhere, and any place by improving its end-user computing technology, while maintaining tight control of intellectual property, delivering rapid provisioning, and supporting a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) initiative. The desktop virtualization project was initiated with a proof of technology (PoT) of View, Workspace Portal, and ThinApp in VMware Horizon to assess whether the proposed solution would fit their needs. (View is the virtual desktop solution, ThinApp is the application virtualization technology, and Workspace Portal provides application delivery.) A primary goal for the end-user computing transformation was to securely access desktops from any device, in any place, at any time. The company also needed to start up new engineering design centers for research and development, at remote locations. To improve flexibility and productivity, an increasing number of staff have adopted BYOD, with mobile devices such as tablets being used for business purposes. With Horizon 6, the automotive manufacturer was able to successfully respond to its IT challenges. This is the in-depth version of the reference implementation case study. It includes an appendix with design details.
