Executive Vice President and General Counsel VMware

Amy Fliegelman Olli, executive vice president and general counsel, is responsible for VMware’s global Legal and Compliance, Privacy and Government Relations teams and champions the company’s commitment to privacy, integrity, ethics and compliance, risk management practices and global public policy.

With more than 25 years of legal experience, Amy is known for her strategic and proactive approach to addressing business objectives; technology sector expertise; and leadership in driving diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. She led legal counsel on VMware’s spin off from Dell and on dozens of M&A transactions, including VMware’s two largest acquisitions. With her guidance, the Legal team has empowered and engaged employees to take ownership in the company’s compliance efforts, reduced contract lifecycle time via automated and self-service systems, and developed a model that provides embedded legal counsel across the business.

Prior to joining VMware in 2017, Amy served as senior vice president and general counsel at Avaya where she helped the company restructure and return to the public market, general counsel at CA Technologies where she joined the company to rebuild the legal function after an SEC investigation, and general counsel IBM-Americas.

Amy also serves on the boards of the Minority Corporate Counsel Association (MCCA) and Televerde, organizations that work to build opportunities for diverse attorneys and incarcerated women, respectively.

In 2010, she was named as a “Legends in Law” award recipient; this national award, given by Burton Awards in association with the Library of Congress, recognizes outstanding leaders in the legal community. Other recognition includes being named to the Financial Times’ list of “Top 20 General Counsels” and Corporate Counsel’s “2021 Women, Influence & Power in Law, General Counsel of the Year—In House” award.

Amy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the State University of New York at Oswego. She earned her J.D. degree from Western New England School of Law.
