Mobile App Privacy Notice ("Notice") – VMware Partner Mobile

VMware, Inc. and its global group of companies ("we" "us" and "our") value your privacy and want to be transparent about our data processing practices. This Notice summarizes what information we collect from you through our apps and how we use it. It is purposefully brief because it's intended to be easily read on a mobile device.

Who are we?

We are a U.S. based global company, so when you use our apps or other services, your information will be transferred there, and also to other countries where we or our service providers operate. All transfers will be carried out in accordance with applicable laws and your personal information will remain protected in accordance with this Notice. 

 

For users in the European Economic Area ("EEA"), the data controller of the personal information collected through this app is VMware, Inc..

 

What is the function of the app?

VMware Partner Mobile is designed to facilitate the sale of VMware products by partners. The app includes features such as Deal Registration, Deal Management, Renewals, Service Requests, Customer Insights, and VMware Contact Information. It serves as a complement to Partner Central, the desktop site for partners. The app is intended to assist partners to better manage their deal process.

 

What information do we collect?

Information you provide: When you register to use our apps generally or register for the Partner Central web application, we may collect personal information (such as contact details like your name, e-mail address and other information like a unique username or password). In some cases, you may be able to register and sign-in via social media (like Facebook, LinkedIn or Google +), in which case we will have access to and use your account credentials for the purpose of account access and account management. In other cases, the app may provide ways for you to voluntarily share other information (for example, by adding a personal profile, sharing content, commenting on other users' content or updates or messaging other users).    

 

Information we automatically collect: When you use our apps, we may automatically collect device-related information (such as your device’s unique ID and information about other apps stored on your device) and performance data and configuration data (such as crash logs to assess the use and performance of the apps and other aggregate or statistical information related to your usage of the app) (for example, which features of the apps are most popular). We may, with your consent, also automatically collect location data (such as GPS data but excluding IP addresses) for the purpose of providing certain features of the apps. Information specific to VMware Partner Mobile: When you use VMware Partner Mobile, we may collect any limited personal data which a partner chooses to include in their deal registration information (e.g. name of a customer contact).

 

Information from other sources: We may supplement the information we collect via the app with information you provide to us through other VMware services, websites and events attended or during a request for support.    

 

What do we use this information for?   

We use this information to provide our services, send you service or app-related announcements, monitor the performance / functionality of the app, develop and improve our apps and other related products and services, relevant events, services, and  occasional e-mail marketing (always in accordance with your marketing preferences), troubleshooting and customer support, internal analytics and other legitimate business purposes. Our third party service providers also process your information on our behalf for these purposes. Do we make any automated decisions about you? 

No.

 

How do we share your information?

We do not sell, rent or trade information that identifies you personally like your name, email address, phone number, or address to third parties to use for their own independent purposes. We may, however, need to share the information we collect through the apps (i) with our third party service providers in order to support the apps, their features and their services, including customer services and technical support; and (ii) with our affiliates, partners, resellers or other third parties that are working with us if such parties need to know such information for the purposes of providing the app and any related services.    

 

Some of our apps provide ways for you to share content – including personal information - with other users or other third party sites (such as Facebook and Twitter), which may result in your personal information being received by us, other users and/or made publically available. You should therefore think carefully before you share such information.

 

We may also disclose your information to third parties where required by law, in connection with the transfer or other reorganization of our business or to investigate any wrongdoing in connection with the apps or our services. We may
also disclose to any other person with your consent.

 

Where do you send my information?

Your personal information may be stored and processed by us in any country where we have facilities or where we engage service providers, and your personal information may therefore be transferred to countries outside of your country of residence, including the U.S., which may have different data protection rules to those of your country. Where we do so, our collection, storage and use of your personal information will be in accordance with the purposes set
out in this Notice.

 

When transferring personal information to the U.S. or elsewhere, we do so under the protection of the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, which protect your personal information that we or our service providers process from the EEA in accordance with European data protection laws.

 

How long will you store my data?

We will retain your personal information for the period necessary to fulfil the purposes outlined in this Notice unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law, for legal, tax or regulatory reasons.    

 

What are my rights?

If you are from certain territories (such as the EEA), you may have the right to (1) request access and obtain a copy of the personal information we hold about you; and (2) request rectification of your personal information.
