What is the format of this year’s VMworld 2021 and when will it take place?

VMworld will be a global online event, taking place worldwide October 5 – 7, 2021. Attend VMworld to learn about innovative new technology solutions, hear perspectives from VMware executives, dive into educational and technical content, and engage with experts across the industry ecosystem.

Will I need to register for the online event?

Yes, registration for VMworld 2021 opens June 15, 2021. New this year is the ability to use your VMware ID to register for VMworld 2021. If you don't already have a VMware ID, you will be prompted to create one prior to registering.

What is a VMware ID? What happened to my VMworld account?

VMworld has enhanced the VMworld registration process by integrating with broader VMware systems and SSO login processes. If you already have a VMware ID, please use it to register for VMworld 2021. If you do not, please take the steps to create a new ID. Your VMware ID credentials can be used for VMware events, Customer Connect, My Workspace ONE, and more. Your My VMworld credentials will no longer be valid.

When and where will VMworld be in 2022?

We are making plans to return to an in-person event in San Francisco, August 30 – September 1, 2022 and Barcelona, November 7-10, 2022. We are currently evaluating opportunities for a hybrid model, offering some elements of content in a virtual form, but expect the major program components and opportunities for sponsors and exhibitors to be in an in-person format. We will share more information as it becomes available.

How much does it cost to attend VMworld 2021?

You can choose from 2 pass types for this year’s event, a General Pass and a Tech+ Pass. The General Pass is free and the Tech+ Pass is $299 USD.

What content will be offered at VMworld 2021?

VMworld 2021 will offer a wide variety of technical and business-focused sessions delivered live and on-demand. On-demand sessions are available to view anytime. Live sessions will be offered globally.

Subject matter will be centered around our content tracks: Vision & Innovation, Multi-Cloud, App Modernization, Security, Networking, Edge, End User Services, and Inspire Change. We will also offer online hands-on labs experiences, VMware UX Design Studio discussions, Demo Zone and VMware {code} sessions. Tech+ Pass holders will have the opportunity to hear from VMware engineers and get specific questions answered during live, interactive sessions as well as opportunities to further your skills with VMware products in tutorials led by VMware product experts.

What kind of software will be required to view keynotes, sessions and interact with the experts?

VMworld 2021 will be web-based, so all you will need is a computer and an internet connection. If you register for a Tech+ Pass, you will need access to Zoom to take full advantage of the pass offerings. Additional information will be provided prior to the online event.

Networking with other users is a big reason I attend. How are you going to offer that benefit online?

New for VMworld 2021 will be an integration with Slack. Connect with other attendees 1:1 or in a group setting. We’ll have chats dedicated to session topics, announcements and more.

Are sessions localized into languages other than English?

The general session and a select number of other VMworld sessions (3 Solution Keynotes and the Fireside Chat with Michael J. Fox) are available in English, Simplified Chinese, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, and Brazilian Portuguese. During the scheduled times for these sessions, you can click on the "CC" link on the bottom right corner of the video player and select your language.

Is English closed captioning/sub-titles available for the sessions?

All sessions also have machine-generated English closed-captioning.

Will sessions be available to view after the online event?

After the event, recorded content will be available, as usual, in our VMworld on-demand library.

Will I be considered an “alum” if I attend the digital event this year?

The VMworld Alumni program will be paused in 2021 and reimagined once the event is back to a fully in-person event. Participation in the VMworld 2021 program, our digital global conference, will not count towards your alumni status. Additionally, the transition from a My VMworld account to a VMware ID login will have no impact to eligibility.

Are there conference giveaways this year?

There's a limited edition backpack available for registered attendees to win as part of the VMworld Challenge. There are other prizes you can win if you complete the game and qualify for the prizes.

Can I buy one of the backpacks?

Sorry, there's a limited supply and they're not for sale. The only way to get one is to complete the Challenge and win the drawing.

Is there a VMware store where I can buy merchandise?

Visit the VMware online store.

How do I attend sessions?

Throughout the event, the video player on the homepage and track pages will stream live content, much like TV channels. The program guide in our video player will always show the sessions currently airing on the player and offer a sneak peek of what’s coming up next. Sit back and enjoy the show!

How do I add sessions to my schedule or mark them as favorites?

Browse the content catalog to find sessions that interest you. You will be able to add live sessions to your schedule by selecting "Add to Schedule". For sessions on the “on-demand” tab, you will be able to add them as favorites to watch at any time. You can view your schedule and your favorites on your profile.

Will sessions be repeated or available on demand later?

Check the content catalog to see all available times for a session. Most sessions (except for Zoom sessions) will be available on demand the following day. You'll be able to find them within the "on-demand" tab of the content catalog within the event platform.

How long will sessions be available after the virtual event?

They will be in on-demand tab of the content catalog until October 14. Beginning October 15, you can find them in the VMworld On-Demand Video Library where they will be available to view for the next 2 years.

Where can I access the PowerPoint Presentations?

Once sessions are available for on-demand viewing, the downloadable PDF (PPT) will be available, too. Zoom sessions will not be available on demand, and therefore those presentations will not be available.

How will content be structured for VMworld 2021?

The VMworld Content team is working with global VMware track teams to solicit, review and determine content for VMworld. The process of collecting and deciding on content remains the same. We are currently soliciting ideas from VMware employees, customers and partners.
